Mindset Mastery

The only thing holding you back from achieving your health and fitness goals, is YOU. Once you understand that you are in control of every aspect of your life, you can and will be able to achieve what you once thought was unachievable.

All your life, you have been lied to… you have been told that you must do things a certain way – perfect - or you’re going to fail. Someone told you that their way is the best and only way to do things – work out like this, diet like that, train at this time of day, fasted cardio is the best, late night workouts are optimal, keto diets are superior or you must live like the cavemen did or you can’t be successful. You believed this, and thus you have “failed” in one way or another, not because you haven’t tried your best but because you couldn’t adhere to the exact specifications of the plan given to you. Now I ask you, does that sound familiar, and more importantly does that sound fair?

Now that we’ve identified that problem, let’s get down to the solution. In my experience, common sense should always win out when it comes to living our lives to our fullest potential. When it comes to your fitness; because that is why you are reading this right, common sense should be telling you to “do what you can sustain.” You see, the truth of the matter is that every diet out there works! Paleo, keto, IIFYM, carnivore, vegetarian and vegan, if you can adhere to it, it will work. Just like every exercise program ever thought up works – treadmills, bodybuilding, bootcamps, power training, spinning, yoga and even crossfit will get you in shape and help you lose weight, if you do them regularly. So, if every diet and every workout program works, why haven’t you reached your body composition goal yet?

Mindset.   We have been told that there is only one way to succeed for so long that we now believe that there is only one way to succeed. Do exactly what some expert – usually a “fit celebrity” tells us to do. And if you fall even for two seconds, then all the progress is lost, and you’ve failed so you must then start all over again.  Let’s take an example of spending days, weeks, even months of filling up a piggy bank with pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters (your diet, weight training, cardio, and flexibility)  and one day you don’t add to that bank – miss a workout - or even worse, you have to withdraw a few cents; cheat on your diet. Does this mean that you actually break that piggy bank and lose ALL the money you’ve deposited, thus starting back at zero? If you listened to yourself or these experts, then yes, you are back to zero because of one bad day. But if you change your mindset to understanding that it’s just one moment in your entire journey, it doesn’t seem like the end of the world or that you have to start from day one again.

Think about it like this, if you are perfect on your diet, training, flexibility, and sleep program today, does that mean you get to slack off tomorrow? No! So why would one bad meal, one missed workout, or one day of feeling down mean you should scrap the rest of the week and “start over” on Monday? You start over tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day – Every day is Day 1!
